DES MOINES (AP) - An 84-year-old sexual predator who was expected to be released from a treatment facility over the weekend is still in custody.
That's because the nursing home he'd planned to move into rejected him.
Carlton Ward, a former Fairfield man, was convicted of sexually molesting five boys.
Last month, a jury ruled that Ward is now likely too old to reoffend.
Jefferson County District Court ordered him discharged from the Department of Human Services Civil Commitment Unit for Sexual Offenders.
Nursing home staff called the treatment unit, however, to say they had changed their minds and no longer wished to accept a high risk offender.
That's according to DHS spokesman Roger Munns.
He says it's now up to Ward's family and the attorneys to find a suitable placement for him.
