DES MOINES (AP) - Organizers of a political action committee formed to urge former Gov. Terry Branstad to seek a comeback say they have accomplished their goal and will change the group's name to reflect a new mission.
Former state Rep. Sandy Greiner, who headed the effort, expressed confidence Tuesday that Branstad would seek the Republican nomination for governor since he's formed an exploratory committee run by a veteran GOP operative.
Now Greiner says the group will change its name to NextGenPAC and would "continue this movement for change here in Iowa."
The shift means the group can't raise and spend money to advocate for a Branstad campaign.
Democrats had complained that the group was still advocating for Branstad, even after he formed his campaign committee last week.
