WATERLOO (AP) - Schools in the Waterloo area say just as health officials warned, the H1N1 virus has meant an early start to the flu season.

Waterloo schools are reporting a 22 percent absentee rate for East High School on Monday due to flu-like illness. One elementary school reported 13 percent absent, followed by an 11 percent absentee rate at a second elementary school.

In Cedar Falls, one elementary school reported 10 percent of its students were absent.

Black Hawk County disease surveillance manager Bruce Meisinger says school-based vaccination clinics are not expected for at least another six weeks because of insufficient supply of vaccine.
