WELLMAN - Fire officials think an electrical problem caused a fire that wrecked the shop and warehouse of a small Washington County business Friday night.

At around 5:30 p.m., members of Wellman and Kalona volunteer fire departments responded to a structural fire at Yoder Plumbing and Heating at 401 1st Ave. in Wellman.

It took 15 minutes for firefighters to neutralize the blaze, which burned only yards away from two large anhydrous tanks sitting near the structure. No body was harmed by the fire.

Friday’s fire was the second major structure fire volunteers in Wellman have responded to in the past week.

Yoder, 47, said that the fire had destroyed everything except for some of his inventory.
