Iowa Asking for Extended Unemployment Benefits

By Becky Ogann

WASHINGTON - Iowa's joining nine other states in asking Congress to extend unemployment benefits for people who've lost their jobs.

The payouts for more than 300,000 out-of-work Americans will expire this month.

Iowa Labor Commissioner Dave Neil and other state leaders want to extend those benefits another 13 weeks.

The House has already passed the bill, but Senate Republicans are blocking a vote on it because they say it costs too much.
