LeCLAIRE - A new report, on the safety of the I-80 bridge between Iowa and Illinois could stop drivers in their tracks.

The report ranks aspects of the bridge in critical condition. The state rated everything from the railings, deck, even waterway adequacy.

A note says "critical condition-may require closure".

A DOT spokesperson claims drivers should be fine for now as long as they follow the orange barrels.

"I won't drive on it. If other people want to drive on it, take the chance. To me the statements in the paper scare me. It could end up just like it was in Minneapolis," LeClaire's Mayor Bob Scannell said Tuesday.

LeClaire city leaders say bridge construction reduced the number of seasonal visitors to LeClaire Iowa by at least a third.
