IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa Children's Hospital is in a fierce battle against hospitals all across the country to win a new $10,000 gameroom.

UPDATE: UIHC is currently in 4th place!

So far, the hospital is in second place, with more than 213,000 votes.

This ordinary looking playroom serves as a sanctuary for sick children and stressed parents.

"It really gets us to know each other a little more and talk about the situations going on," said Brenda Steinlage, parent.

A break from the needles, exams and trauma. A chance to meet other children facing similar challenges children should never have to face.

"It's great so he goes in and interacts with other kids going through the same thing. He's not the only bald kid in the hospital," Molly Hansen, parent.

"I have a rule that whenever you come in my room, you have to have a joke with you," said Rolan Steinlage, 12-years-old.

Now, the hospital has a chance to jazz up these cramped quarters.

The University of Iowa Children's hospital is competing against other hospitals all across the nation to win a $10,000 game room.

If the hospital wins, the ordinary playroom could become a high-tech, electronic haven. A place for children to have fun and forget about why they're here.

The Children's Miracle Network contest to win a new playroom runs until October 16th.

It's based entirely upon online voting, and you can vote more than once.
