West Branch finalist for Spanish wind turbine plant

By Becky Ogann

WEST BRANCH (AP) - Iowa is in the running for a Spanish wind turbine assembly plant.

Acciona Energia has narrowed its choices to West Branch, in eastern Iowa, and a location in northern Illinois.

The Iowa Department of Economic Development has approved a more than $3 million package of state incentives.

The company plans to create 110 jobs.

Acciona designs and manufactures wind turbine components and develops and operates wind farms.

The plant will be the company's first North American assembly plant.

If it's built in Iowa, it will be the third major wind project in the past two years.

California-based Clipper Windpower opened a wind turbine production plant in Cedar Rapids. German company Siemens AG plans to build turbine blades in Fort Madison this year.
