DENISON (AP) - A man in custody on immigration charges has been charged in the slaying of a man whose body was found last winter in a ditch in western Iowa.

Twenty-year-old Luis Trujillo-Mendez is in federal custody in Oklahoma awaiting extradition to Iowa, where he will be charged with first-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Lorenzo Garcia.

Crawford County Sheriff James Steinkuehler says Garcia disappeared sometime around Jan. 5 from his home in Denison. His body was found on Feb. 24 in a ditch near Dow City. An autopsy showed Garcia died of multiple gun shot wounds.

Authorities found a gun, ammunition and Garcia's wallet during a search of Trujillo-Mendez's residence in Denison.
