DUBUQUE (AP) - A Dubuque man accused of killing a friend during a fight has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and several other charges.
Michael Mayton is accused of fatally stabbing David Tate on Aug. 15. Mayton also is accused of stabbing another man, Richard Schramm Jr., who survived.
Mayton also is charged with attempted murder, willful injury and going armed with intent.
Mayton entered his plea on Monday in Dubuque County District Court.
Police say Mayton and his friends were attacked by a group from Schramm's house, and that people were throwing beer bottles at each other and hitting each other with snow shovels.
