LISBON – Confusion surrounded Lisbon Community Schools Monday morning, as a report came out that a student had a confirmed case of the H1N1 virus. But by noon, the report had been pulled off of the district's website.

Lisbon Community School Superintendent Brad Laures says a parent called on Sunday to say their child had H1N1. Because of various restrictions, the district could not get to the student's medical records or confirm the illness, but took precautionary measures.

Just before noon Monday, the school said the case of H1N1 was not confirmed. Linn Co. Public Health hasn't had a confirmed report of the H1N1 virus in over a week. If a case had been confirmed in Linn County, Public Health would know about it.

There are confirmed cases of Influenza A in the district. Children with Influenza A shouldn’t come back to school until they are fever-free with a doctor's note for 24-hours.

The district's staff met Monday morning to go over precautions. Teachers were told to send kids with any symptoms to the school nurse, who has been swamped Monday.

Laures says this was good practice and proof they are ready to deal with H1N1 when it comes.
