DES MOINES (AP) - Des Moines police say murder charges have been filed in a case that at first appeared to be fatal car crash.
Matthew Grady, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Stephen Scott, 37, on Aug. 17.
Police were called to the scene of an accident where a car had hit a tree. Scott was found dead inside the car, but police say it did not appear the car was traveling fast enough to cause his death.
An autopsy later showed he had been shot.
Police announced in a news release that charges were filed against Grady on Wednesday afternoon.
Grady was being held in the Polk County jail on unrelated charges.
