HOPKINTON - A woman is in the hospital after being stabbed multiple times late Tuesday night.

Police say it happened at 205 College Street in Hopkinton just before midnight.

Sharon Matson, 29, was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals with several stab wounds.

The suspect, Juan Perez, is in the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and was also taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals with a self inflicted stab wound.

There is no information being released on Matson's condition.

A family friend of the victim tells TV9 that Matson is a jealous ex-boyfriend. The friend says the victim and her three kids are new to Hopkinton, living there for less than two months.
