DUBUQUE - A Dubuque man is now charged with first degree murder and attempted murder in a stabbing earlier this month. 40-year-old Michael Mayton is accused of stabbing to death 38-year-old David Tate on Saturday, August 15th. Dubuque Police also accuse Mayton of stabbing 23-year-old Richard Schramm. Schramm survived the stabbing.
Shortly after the stabbings, Mayton was arrested and charged with Willful Injury (causing serious injury) and Going Armed With Intent. He remains in the Dubuque County Jail.
David Tate's Mother, Linda Sarden, told TV-9 her son was a peace-maker and would *often step in dangerous situations* to protect his friends. She said David Tate was good friends with Richard Schramm.
