A Compromise on Wood-Burning Boilers in Residential Areas?

By Becky Ogann

LINN COUNTY - People who rely on wood-burning boilers for hot water and heat face a critical hearing Tuesday.

The Linn County Supervisors will discuss new rules for the boilers.

The proposal is a compromise. It would require a 15-foot smoke stack for boilers in rural areas and a smoke stack higher than any neighbors house in residential areas.

A previous proposal would have essentially banned wood-burning boilers.

Health experts say smoke from the boilers can cause breathing and heart trouble.
