AP - A slaughterhouse in Postville is recalling about 2,700 of potentially underprocessed frankfurters shipped to the Northeast.

Federal officials say Agriprocessors is accepting returns on its one and two pound packages of frankfurters made with beef and chicken. They were shipped to stores in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. No illnesses from these products have been reported.

Company and federal officials say an Agriprocessors employee discovered the problem and the company issued a voluntary recall.

Agriprocessors spokesman Mike Thomas says he was not immediately sure how the employee determined that the meat may have been underprocessed. He says the meat apparently passed all the normal standards.

Labels on the recalled meat bears a March 16 expiration date and the establishment number EST 4653 A inside the USDA inspection mark.
