CEDAR RAPIDS - Shoppers at TJ Maxx discount stores are getting a warning: Check your bank and credit card statements.

Shoppers at TJ Maxx might get a letter in the mail that says your bank or credit card information has been compromised.

TJ Maxx's parent company TJX issued a statement saying there was an "unauthorized intrusion" in its computer systems.

Customers' credit card, debit cards and check information might be in the hands of a hacker.

TJX discovered the breach in December and contacted police. They also notified banks and credit card companies.

They're urging customers to carefully check bank statements and credit card statements to be sure there isn't any suspicious activity.

Shoppers at TJ Maxx might get a notice about this security breach from the bank or credit card company, but at this time you won't get one from TJ Maxx.

They're working with financial institutions to notify customers.

So if you've shopped at TJ Maxx and paid with anything other than cash, check your statements and notify your bank or credit card company if you notice any purchases you didn't make.
