Man Faces Charges After Defecating on Sidewalk

ELGIN - The Fayette County Sheriff's department was called to a messy situation back on July 4th, and on Thursday, charges were filed.

At 3:05 a.m. on July 4th, officials received a report of someone defecating on the sidewalk in front of The Valley Community Coalition on Center Street, in Elgin. When they arrived, officers found that someone had smeared feces on the door of the building.

After an investigation, Matthew Sodoma, 21, of Randalia, was arrested on Thursday, July 16th.

Sodoma was taken to the Fayette County Jail. He is being held on charges of defecating on a public sidewalk or building in violation of City of Elgin code section 41.11 and criminal mischief in the fifth degree in violation of Iowa Code section 716.6 which are both simple misdemeanors.
