Update on Stray Flood Cats in Cedar Rapids

By Daren Sukhram

CEDAR RAPIDS - The flood caused a spike in the population of stray cats in Cedar Rapids.

A program aimed at cutting that population is reporting some early success.

The Iowa Humane Alliance says it trapped 15 wild cats in the Time Check neighborhood. 8 of those cats are young enough or friendly enough to adopt out to families.

The rest were neutered and returned to their colony to help control the population.

The group plans to do larger catch and release efforts in the near future.

The Iowa Humane Alliance estimates there are 25-thousand homeless cats living in Cedar Rapids right now.
