HARDIN COUNTY - A Radcliffe man is hospitalized after the pickup truck he was driving collided with a Union Pacific train just before 8 o'clock Saturday morning.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that the driver, Andrew Hetland of Radcliffe, was injured in the accident at the crossing on County Road D-65 south of Garden City.
Hetland was transported by Radcliffe ambulance to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames for treatment. Hospital officials had no record of him being formally admitted.
Sheriff's officials said Hetland apparently saw the train too late and his eastbound pickup collided with the northbound train's lead engine. Officials said the crossing lights and bell were operating at the time.
Deputies were assisted by Radcliffe firefighters and ambulance crews. The accident is still under investigation.
