SHELDON (AP) - Workers at Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon wanted to do something big for its residents. They decided to make their dreams come true. For some of the 34 residents it was a trip back in time.
Ken Roos got a visit from some World War II Army pals. Daloris Rensink got a plane ride over the farm she once owned. For Gertie Vander Ploeg it was a computer monitor and free lessons on how to e-mail her grandchildren.
Aletha Mouw only wanted a bigger piece of pie on Sundays. She got a whole lemon meringue pie from a local bakery. And for Jean Miller, her dreams of a doll with a red dress she held as a child in a hospital came true, too. An area shop donated a porcelain doll in a red dress with her name engraved in the back.
