CEDAR RAPIDS - Railroad flood recovery took a big step forward Friday. At noon, the first full train passed over the new CRANDIC Cedar River Bridge in Cedar Rapids.

Last year's flood washed away the old bridge, forcing CRANDIC to re-route a considerable amount of freight traffic.
CRANDIC C.O.O. Joe McGovern tells TV9, "It gives us a connection back to the Iowa Northern Railroad and the Canadian National which are important to our customers."

McGovern says it was a very aggressive construction schedule that enabled building the bridge in 13 months.
