Two Hurt in Hwy 30 Crash, Traffic Backed Up

By Becky Ogann

LINN COUNTY - A crash on Highway 30 just outside Cedar Rapids sent two people to the hospital and backed-up rush hour traffic Thursday evening. Linn County Sheriffs say an SUV pulled out in front of a pick-up truck at Jappa Road just around 4:42 pm. The two vehicles collided and both rolled into the median. The driver of the SUV, Alexander Steenblock, 16, of Ely, had to be cut out with the jaws of life and air-lifted to the hospital. The pick-up's driver, Charles Heins, 54, of Marion, was also taken to the hospital. Both had non-life threatening injuries. The slow down from that crash caused a second crash. The Linn County Sheriff's Office says a car rear-ended another car as both slowed down for the first crash scene. No one was hurt in that crash.
