Sentencing Date Set for Teen Tied to Officer Davis Beating

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) - A teenager who pleaded guilty to a role in a robbery that led to the beating of a Cedar Rapids police officer will be sentenced Aug. 11.

Robert Watkins III, 15, pleaded guilty in Linn County District Court to first-degree robbery and interference with official acts causing injury.

Officer Tim Davis suffered severe head injuries when he was assaulted after responding to the robbery on March 29.

Two other teens are charged in the case.

The teen suspected of the beating, Jose Rockiett, 17, is charged with first-degree robbery, willful injury causing serious injury and interference with official acts causing serious injury. His trial is set for Oct. 5.
