IOWA CITY, Iowa - Several months after the death of her 5-year-old son, Pamela Codd is fighting for an increase in cancer research funding.
"[My son's] story is a perfect example of why we need funding," Codd said.
Codd's son Dashiell was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2012. The young Iowa City boy died last June.
"Billions of dollars are at stake," Codd said. Earlier this month the mother of two other children traveled to Washington D.C. to speak out against the federal sequestration, which threatens to severely cut back on cancer research over the next decade.
Young Dashiell became a hit with KCRG viewers last December when he was featured in a story watching the catchy Muppet's song "Mahna Mahna." His family had set up a Facebook page where people could post their own versions of the song for Dashiell to watch.
Pamela Codd says she plans to return to Washington D.C. in the near future to continue fighting the cuts.
