LOWDEN - A fire has destroyed an apartment building that once was Trinity Lutheran School. The fire started around 9:30 Saturday night at the corner of Washington Avenue and 8th Street in the Cedar County community of Lowden.

KCRG-TV9 has learned that five of the units in the building were being occupied but everyone got out safely. The Trinity Lutheran School building was built in 1920. The school closed in the early 1980s and has been used for apartments since.

Fire departments from around Cedar, Jones and Clinton counties were on the scene to help extinguish the fire.

The Cedar County Sheriff's Office has not yet released any further information on the fire.
