IC Goes Ahead with Fireworks Despite Tight Budget

IOWA CITY - Budget constraints are not keeping Iowa City from putting on a Fourth of July fireworks display.

A few months ago, the city discussed cutting out this year's fireworks show due to budget constraints. But, the city council decided to go ahead and purchase fireworks.

"Because of the early decision we were able to get some early orders done and experience some discounts," says City Clerk Marian Karr.
"We hope the show will be just as good as last year. Be a little less expensive because of those discounts."

Iowa City chose not to hold the fireworks display in City Park as last year's flooding made the area unsuitable for the event. Instead, the fireworks can be see in downtown Iowa City from the west side of the Old Capitol.
