Dubuque Winery Helps Kick Prohibition Era Law to Curb

DUBUQUE - Another new law Wednesday means you're now able to purchase beer at any winery in Iowa.

That might seem obvious, but an old law that dated back to prohibition prevented wineries from selling beer.

Last year, owners of Stone Cliff Winery in Dubuque asked lawmakers to scrap that law.

They did, and now you have the choice at wineries, wine or beer.

"We are going to try and keep it like the micro brew type. Like Amberbock and Blue Moon. We've got Millstream I think from Amana and we do have the basic Bud Light," said Nan Smith.

Owners say pouring beer in addition to wine will take a little getting use to.

But they expect having beer available will really help their sales.
