ELGIN (AP) - Police have arrested an Independence man accused of pushing his girlfriend out of a car traveling about 40 mph in northeast Iowa.

Buchanan County deputies on Saturday night charged Michael J. Conrad, 59, with domestic assault.

Earlier in the day, Fayette County officials said deputies responded to a report of a woman lying in the road about three miles south of Elgin. She was taken to a hospital in West Union and treated for injuries not considered life-threatening. Her name wasn't released.

Conrad was taken to the Fayette County jail.
