DES MOINES (AP) - As Iowa Republicans consider whether to run for governor, Democrat Chet Culver continues a campaign he never really stopped after winning election in 2006.
The first-term governor kept some campaign staff on after his victory, and he's raised from $2 million to $3 million, putting him in a strong financial position for his re-election effort.
Culver hasn't made a formal announcement, but his campaign plans and comments have made it clear he wants a second term.
On Friday, Sioux City Rep. Christopher Rants announced he'd launch an exploratory committee to consider a run for governor. Sioux City business consultant Bob Vander Plaats also has established such a committee.
