Digging, Sliding and Shivering

AP - The snow is piling up so high in some places you need a yardstick, not a ruler, to measure it.

More than 16 inches is on the ground in Kenosha, Wis., while Racine has about a foot. But blizzard and winter storm warnings are now canceled in southern Wisconsin, as the storm heads away.

In Missouri, the governor declared a state of emergency and put the National Guard on standby to help recovery efforts. Ice and snow hit the state, and the electric company in St. Louis warns it'll be days before all 400,000 customers without power get it back.

Parts of Michigan are still getting snow, sleet and freezing rain that started Thursday night. Illinois is also digging out. Peoria normally gets 7.1 inches of snow in all of December. Friday alone it got more than 8 inches.
