DES MOINES (AP) - A state board has rejected arguments from advocates who want to use marijuana for medical purposes in Iowa.

The Iowa Board of Pharmacy, under orders from a Polk County judge, took up the issue on Monday and rejected it.

Advocates contend the board must allow medical uses of marijuana because 13 other states allow it.

In April, Judge Joel Novak ruled the board must review the classification of marijuana and whether it has an accepted medical use.

In Monday's decision, the pharmacy board cited a lack of scientific evidence, and said just because other states allow it doesn't mean Iowa should.

Advocate Carl Olsen, of Des Moines, vowed to take the matter back to court.
