MONTICELLO - A father and son from Monticello are in the hospital after falling about 25 feet onto a concrete surface. Just after 10:30 Friday morning, emergency responders rushed to a privately-owned communications business in Jones County. That's where a 32-year-old father and his 6-year-old son fell down a concrete shaft.

The business is located off Highway 151 between Monticello and Cascade.

At this time authorities are not releasing the victim's names until they notify family members. But people in Monticello, where both victims are from, say the father owned the business Net Connect, an internet service provider. The accident happened in his communications bunker ... underneath the building.

Greg Graver with the Jones County Sheriff's Department says, "The owner of the business, a 32-year-old male from Monticello was holding his 6-year-old son his arms and stepped onto the palate and it kicked out and they fell about 25 feet to the concrete below."

The son was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with chest and leg injuries. And the father was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque with extremity injuries.

Officers don't know why the 6-year-old was on the job site with his father. They expect to release their identities and their conditions later this evening.
