DES MOINES (AP) - Gov. Chet Culver has called an afternoon news conference to talk about swine flu.

The state is testing for a possible case of swine flu in the Waterloo area.

The news conference is at 3:30 p.m.

Bruce Meisinger of the Black Hawk County Health Department says a person showed up at a hospital or clinic on Tuesday with symptoms that met the case definition of the virus.

Samples have been sent to the University Hygienic Laboratory in Iowa City for confirmation. Testing could take several days.

Meisinger refused to give details about the individual but says the person was showing certain symptoms, including a temperature higher than 100 degrees. He says the person also had either traveled to an infected location or had close contact with a person who had traveled to one of those areas.
