SEARSBORO - A garage that caught fire early Tuesday morning required 12 fire trucks, 26 firefighters and more than four hours to extinguish.
According to Montezuma Assistant Fire Chief Rick Warden, a driver that spotted a four-stall garage ablaze at 1598 Highway 146 near Searsboro around 6:15 this morning "pounded on the door" of the residence until someone woke up. A man and woman live at the home, but their names have not been released.
Fire crews arrived on sene around 6:15 a.m. and were able to contain the inferno to one side of the structure. "It was probably a couple hours before we got it completely under control," Warden said. "It had heated up pretty good before we got in there."
The building and items inside suffered extensive fire and water damage. One wall of the structure was completely burned, Warden said, and part of the attic and roof were scorched. A car was parked in the garage but was not damaged, Warden said.
Crews were on scene for more than four hours. No one was injured, and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
