LINN COUNTY - A tornado caused quite a bit of damage as it moved through part of Linn County last night.

The tornado touched down just before 5 pm, cutting a path near Alburnett.

It took just moments to create damage that will take months to clean up.

Marcy Machacek and her husband Dave came home from church to find the damage.

"[We're] really devastated. But we both said I can't believe we weren't here. You know, we could've been here. We could've been right in it," she says.

Friends rushed over to help how they could.

"There are a lot of guys cutting down trees and cutting them up. Quite an effort going on to rescue the farm machinery out of the machine shed," says Dave Booth.

But lasting marks will remain.

"You just can't cover beautiful trees that are gone. I hate to see that happen, but we're here," says Machacek.

Among the crushed grain bins and piles of rubble, hope and gratitude stand strong.

"We're thoroughly blessed by lots of help from neighbors, family, friends, so it's just been unbelievable."
