CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) - Cedar Rapids police say an officer who was assaulted last month continues to improve.

Officer Tim Davis was found unconscious on March 29 after he and his partner confronted people in the area of a robbery. Three teenagers are charged in connection with the assault.

The police department said in a statement Tuesday that Davis has begun to follow verbal commands and he is able to answer simple questions.

Last week, he was in guarded condition, but doctors reported that his brain had stopped swelling.

Officials have said it could be weeks to determine the extent of the brain damage he may have suffered.
