DES MOINES – Governor Chet Culver will travel to Eagle Grove Tuesday to celebrate the life and spirit of service of Aaron Eilerts, a Boy Scout who lost his life at the Little Sioux Scout Ranch last June.

Following Aaron’s death, Governor Culver proclaimed Aaron’s birthday – February 24 – as Aaron Eilerts Day in Iowa, and called on Iowa’s schools to follow Aaron’s example by giving back to their communities and their state.

“Though only 14 years old, Aaron Eilerts was a true Iowan who lived up to the ideals we all strive towards – trustworthiness, honesty, and a commitment to service,” said Governor Culver. “I hope all Iowans join with me on this special day in not only remembering a great Iowan who tragically lost his life too soon, but also serving the state that Aaron loved.”

Responding to Governor Culver’s call to serve, 64 service projects are currently scheduled at schools around the state Tuesday. These events will bring together hundreds of students in service to their state and fellow Iowans.
