MARSHALLTOWN (AP) - Trial has been scheduled for this summer for a West Des Moines man accused in a double homicide in Marshall County.

Kyle Deemer is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. His trial is scheduled for Aug. 25. It had initially been scheduled for last month.

Police say 29-year-old Deemer gunned down Jessica Deemer, his wife he was separated from, and Bryce Mercer, of West Des Moines, on Oct. 17. Their bodies were found near a ditch along Highway 14 in central Iowa.

Witnesses reported that a suspect fled the scene.

The Eldora Police Department says a chase later ensured with Kyle Deemer. It ended when Deemer's vehicle left the roadway. He took off on foot, but was captured a short time later.
