DYERSVILLE (AP) - The struggling economy has forced the owners of the Field of Dreams movie site near Dyersville to call off plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film's release.
Don and Becky Lansing say with so many people losing their jobs it makes no sense to spend money on a celebration.
In a news release, the Lansings say that they, like many other businesses, are having to make tough decisions.
The Lansings say that instead of spending money on an anniversary celebration, they will donate $5,000 to a local food bank, calling it a much better use of the money.
The movie featuring Kevin Costner was released in 1989. It is based on the book "Shoeloess Joe" written by W.P. Kinsella.
