DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A coalition of labor and community activists are urging Republican Sen. Charles Grassley to put aside partisanship and support President Barack Obama's giant economic stimulus plan.

Union leaders held a news conference Tuesday to seek Grassley's
backing for a plan they say would boost Iowa's economy and help pull the nation out of the recession. The group is running television ads with a similar theme.

Although the unions typically favor Democratic candidates, Danny Homans of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal
Employees says one-third of his members are Republicans.

Grassley says he hasn't seen the TV commercials but has heard from constituents that Obama's stimulus plan is too wasteful.
