Aldi Closes Four Iowa Stores

AP - Discount grocery chain Aldi Incorporated has closed four Iowa stores this summer.
Company officials say sales lagged behind corporate expectations
in Indianola, Oskaloosa, Washington and Newton.
The company announced in February that it is closing a
distribution center in Burlington by the fall of 2007, moving that
operation to Minnesota. About 89 workers in Burlington will be affected.
The company has 26 stores remaining in Iowa and has looked at
Ankeny, Coralville, western Des Moines and Davenport as possible
future store sites.
Aldi is a German company but has its U.S. headquarters in
Batavia, Illinois. It operates more than 800 stores in this country
