More than 200 Laid Off at WhirlpoolRelated Content
MIDDLE AMANA - More than 200 layoffs took effect Monday at the Whirlpool refrigeration plant in Middle Amana. Back in December, employees were informed the company was seeking 150 voluntary layoffs by January 5.
Plant management requested approximately 150 voluntary layoffs and received slightly 155 volunteers. Those layoffs were effective Monday. About 55 involuntary layoffs became effective Monday as well. Those people were told about the layoffs on December 16th. This comes after 440 employees were let go in 2008. The company said in December that due to unprecedented challenges and volatility in the marketplace, there is no timetable for when any laid off employees could be rehired. |
