Tractor Fire Destroys Wash Bays in Clayton County

GARNAVILLO (AP) - Officials say a tractor parked inside a wash bay at a service station in Garnavillo sparked a fire that destroyed two wash bays. Garnavillo is a few miles northwest of Guttenberg in Clayton County.

Fire officials were called to Heitman's Service Center early Saturday.

Fire Chief Leonard Ohrt says Jerry Reicks, of Garnavillo, had parked his tractor in a wash bay to keep it warm for the night. When he started the tractor to plow snow, it backfired, setting the carburetor on fire.

The fire spread to the wash bays. A fire wall prevented the fire from spreading to the gas station. No one was injured.
