IOWA CITY - Mumbai is the largest city in India, and for most people it seems far away. But for 27-year-old Alok Shah, this week's attacks hit close to home.
The graduate student at the University of Iowa was born in Mumbai.

He says none of his family and friends have died, but he knows people who have lost loved ones. Shah says being very familiar with the area, he can't begin to understand how this tragedy took place.

"There had been two bomb blasts less than half a mile from where we lived and that kind of shook my world because again when home is the safest place you're told to go and then suddenly you find out it's not really safe anymore it shakes you up."

Shah plans to return to Mumbai in February. But he says if it was possible, he would take the next plane home.
