CHICAGO (AP) - Travelers moved quickly through short lines on Wednesday at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, as nationwide holiday travel was down.

Many of the people boarding planes in Chicago say they usually travel to visit family on Thanksgiving despite the costs.

Like most, Winnetka residents Jen and Charles Lawless say they bought their annual tickets to North Carolina early and paid a bit more - in their case about $200 more for the couple and their three young children.

Allison Stewart-Smull says she and her husband, Scott, considered driving from their home in suburban New Orleans to see family in Rock Island. The couple compromised with a cheap 6 a.m. flight to O'Hare. They and their 3-year-old son will return Saturday instead of Sunday to save more money.
