CEDAR RAPIDS - Some flooded-out merchants in Czech Village are working hard to reopen in time to get some holiday business.
Nancy Schmecker is trying to get her Merle Norman cosmetics shop ready by December 1st.
She says this isn't the kind of business that sees a big rush on the day after Thanksgiving, but missing the extra sales leading up to Christmas would hurt.
"I think it's important the communities know we're up and going we're coming, we want to be a part of the community," said Nancy Schmecker, business owner.
Schmecker also manages a tea room that she hopes to reopen in time to host some holiday parties. One owner estimates about half the businesses in Czech Village have either managed to reopen after the flooding or will reopen soon.
