GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - An Iowa woman is hospitalized in serious condition following surgery after she was run over by a semitrailer at a construction site on Colorado's Western Slope.
Bonnie Stevens, 43, of Iowa City, was standing between two sets of dual tires on a 127-foot trailer when the trailer began to roll about 2:20 p.m. Monday.
Rio Blanco County Undersheriff Michael Joos says Stevens tried to move, but one set of tires struck her head, chest and body.
She was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction with critical injuries.
The accident occurred at a gas pipeline construction site in the Piceance Creek Basin.
The semitrailer driver, Ronald Tolson, 64, of Lenoir City, Tenn., was cited for failing to set the brakes.
