IOWA CITY - Seth's older brother, Sean Kehoe, is a first grader at Regina Catholic Elementary School in Iowa City.

The Kehoe tragedy is hitting home at Sean's elementary school in Iowa City. On Wednesday, parents of his classmates went to the school for some professional advice.

"Myself and everyone involved is just devastated. You never want anything bad to happen in your community, to your family," said Susan Young, parent.

Now the school is making sure parents have the right tools to talk about it with their children.

"Parents have lots of questions about how to talk to their children," said Karin McKerne, social worker.

Many parents were waiting for guidance before the had the discussion.

"Regina is really good with how to talk to things with our kids that are tragic," said Young.

Social workers and counselors are advising parents to stay away from rumors. And let their children's age and questions guide the conversation.

"Our job is just to be there, to be there in prayer, not in judgment, but in prayer and support them in any way we can," said Young.

The school says it will support the parents, students and staff in any way, as well. And this Catholic school says their faith will guide them through this.

Counselors say to watch for warning signs in your children, like irritability and sleeplessness. If they continue that behavior for several weeks, contact a professional.
