IOWA CITY - Sean Kehoe is a first grade student at Regina Elementary in Iowa City. The principal says she knows the Kehoe family well, and that Sean's parents, Michelle and Gene, often come to the school.

Students attending the same elementary school as seven-year-old Sean Kehoe were invited to pray for their classmate and his family today.

Tuesday morning, Regina elementary teachers read a statement to students about their classmate Sean.

It read "Today we pray for the Kehoe family as there has been a tragedy for them. We ask prayers for the Kehoe family, especially Sean who is in the hospital. We might be sad about this, so let's say a prayer together for the family."

The principal told TV9 several students offered prayers throughout the day for the family. Counselors from Grant Wood Critical Incident team were brought in to help students and staff cope with what has happened to Sean.

The principal said she knew Sean well and that his class is concerned about him.

"Little loving first graders if they hear that anyone is hurt at all they want to be the helper you know if someone gets hurt on the playground they'll bring them up to the office and be the helper. I'm sure they had a genuine concern for him," said Celest Vincent, Regina Elementary Principal.

We're told that Sean's little brother Seth would have attended Regina Elementary next year. The school will be holding a special meeting for parents Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. to help them learn how to handle questions their young children may be asking regarding this difficult situation.
